If it seems like tariffs are all anyone is talking about right now, you’re not alone. And if you’re like me, all this talk is definitely stressing you out—which, of course, is not great for eczema.
But beyond the stress, how will these tariffs impact your eczema care products?
Unfortunately, eczema doesn’t take a break just because prices go up. And since eczema-friendly products are already more expensive than regular skincare, tariff-related price hikes could make it even harder to afford the products we need.
How Tariffs Could Affect Eczema Care Products
➡️Prices Increasing – Many eczema brands, including some of our partners like Skinfix, Nature by Canus, and The Eczema Company, are based in Canada or manufacture there. If tariffs are imposed, these brands may raise prices to offset higher costs. Additionally, even U.S.-based brands rely on materials like packaging from overseas (especially China), which could also drive up prices.
➡️Out of Stock Products – Remember the pandemic supply chain shortages? We could see something similar in the first few weeks after tariffs take effect, as brands scramble to find new suppliers and adjust their production process.
➡️Formula Changes – If brands need to source ingredients from different countries to avoid tariffs, they might tweak their product formulas. And for those of us with eczema, even a slight change in ingredients can mean the difference between clear skin and a major flare-up.
➡️Product Discontinuations – Some brands might cut down on their product offerings and focus only on bestsellers to save costs, which could mean your favorite eczema-friendly item disappears from shelves.
How to Protect Your Skin (and Wallet)
Since we can’t control these changes, the best thing we can do is prepare:
✅ Have backup products ready. If your go-to items go out of stock, get reformulated, or become too expensive, have 2-3 trusted alternatives in every category (moisturizer, cleanser, shampoo, etc.).
✅ Stock up when possible. If your budget allows, consider buying an extra bottle or two of your must-have products before prices potentially increase.
✅ Try new brands before committing. Instead of spending $$$ on full-size products that may not work for you, sample them first to find what your skin loves.
